An article of sweet success: The 2016 Hob Nob

Thank you to all that attended, all who made this Hob Nob a major success!

On Thursday evening, business leaders and community residents came out to fill the Sanford Civic Center for The Greater Sanford Regional Chamber of Commerce 2016 Last Hoorah Hob Nob. The event was billed as Central Florida’s Sweetest Political Meet & Greet.

According to Chamber President/CEO Frank Hale, “Hob Nob provides a great way for candidates and citizens to come together in one place to speak face to face. The result is attendees who are more informed and candidates who get to hear directly from the electorate. It serves each of us and our community in both the short and long-term.”

The Hob Nob, made possible by presenting sponsor Central Florida Regional Hospital and along with additional sponsors--Bright House Networks,  PRO-TECH Air Conditioning and Plumbing, AMACREATIONS, Fire House Subs Lake Mary, Florida Power and Light, Look Local, P.S., I Got This Event Planning, Kathryn Townsend State Republican Committee Woman and Tillis Pest Control.

According to one attendee, We were impressed by the professional approach and all-American feel for the event. I had an opportunity to meet candidates whose signs I had seen but didn’t know anything about. It also provided an opportunity to ask questions of candidates for the same offices at the same event.

Michael O’Brien, owner of The Corner Café in downtown Sanford said, “The turnout of both candidates and residents was heartwarming. The ability to interact with both was enlightening for me and further ignited my interest in the outcome of the upcoming elections.”

Attendees and participants enjoyed sweets and desserts provided by The Corner Café, The Father’s Table, Colonial Room Restaurant, Edible Arrangements, Firehouse Subs and P.S. I Got This, among others. Hale said, “It was a beautifully presented display of decadence that was a hit with all of the attendees.” The opportunity to enjoy so much dessert before eating dinner was great.”

The Hob Nob included a “Straw Poll”, conducted by Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Michael Ertel. Attendees were provided with an opportunity to complete a ballot comprised of candidates for each office. The results were provided to the attendees at the end of the evening.

The Greater Sanford Regional Chamber of Commerce is an organization of business professionals working to improve business and community. We provide tools and resources for business while and addressing challenges that face business and the broader community.  The Chamber provides networking, promotional opportunities and a proactive voice for business and community in Sanford and throughout Seminole, West Volusia and Orange counties.
The Chamber encourages all residents to VOTE in the upcoming election cycle. Hale said, “elections in a democracy are important to our future success, collectively we elect candidates to make important decisions that impact each of us and our communities every day.”

Allegiant breaks ground on $24 million training center in Orlando area

Ground has been broken the for the airline Allegiant offering industry-low fares on an all-jet fleet while also offering other travel-related products such as hotel rooms and rental cars, new East Coast training center, located adjacent to Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) in Sanford, Florida.

“It’s been great to see how our partnership with Orlando Sanford International Airport, Airports Worldwide and the entire community has grown and thrived...We’re so pleased that this new, state-of-the-art facility will place Sanford at the center of training activity and the leading edge of technology for all our East Coast crew members.”said Maury Gallagher, Allegiant chief executive officer and chairman.

The $24 million, 43,000 square-foot facility will be completed and equipped to begin hosting training for Allegiant flight crew members and mechanics by Q1 of 2017. Allegiant operates a similar facility in Las Vegas, Nevada to train West Coast-based crews. The East Coast training center will have the capacity to train 150 pilots, 500 flight attendants and 100 mechanics annually, on a full range of flight simulator, cabin trainers, and classroom resources for A320 and MD80 aircraft. Thirty local, full-time instructors and support staff will operate the facility.

Over the 11 years the airline has served the Orlando area, Allegiant has flown nearly 14 million people to and from the destination. Allegiant currently offers non-stop service to Orlando Sanford from more than 70 cities across the U.S. A recently-completed economic impact study showed Allegiant supports more than 23,000 jobs in Florida, and contributes $2.6 billion in economic benefit across the state.

The Orlando Sanford International Airport  benefits from a unique blend of local government and private investment that makes for a very customer focused airport. SFB is operated through a public/private partnership between the Sanford Airport Authority and Airports Worldwide. Airports Worldwide has been contracted by the Sanford Airport Authority to manage both the international and domestic terminals, develop additional air service, and provide ground handling and cargo services. This public/private partnership has created service benefits for SFB airline customers and passengers.
