Orlando Sanford Announces Nonstop Service to San Juan, Puerto Rico & Trenton, New Jersey on Allegiant

Sanford, FL, July 28, 2016 – Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) and Allegiant announce scheduled, nonstop, low-fare service to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico and to Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN) in Trenton, New Jersey. The total number of nonstop destinations offered by Allegiant from Orlando Sanford now stands at 71. Service to Trenton begins Thursday, November 3 and will initially operate three days per week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Service to San Juan begins Wednesday, December 14 and will initially operate four days per week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Travelers can book their trip for less at www.Allegiant.com or by calling Allegiant’s travel experts at 702-505-8888.

The free 10-week class is a great way to provide an opportunity for you to learn about local government through first-hand experience and gain exposure to the wide range of City functions, services and activities.  The only requirement is that you are at least 18 years old.

On Thursday, August 4, 2016 the Chamber will host the 2016 Last Hoorah Hob Nob, presented by Central Florida Regional Hospital. The Chamber’s Hob Nob, Central Florida’s Sweetest Meet and Greet, will feature candidates for local, state and national office and a wide variety of sweet confections. Sanford’s Hob Nob will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sanford Civic Center, 401 Seminole Boulevard in Historic Downtown Sanford.

 
The Hob Nob is a free event. Candidates and other attendees at the Chamber’s 2014 Hob Nob were so impressed with the event and commented that it was the BEST Hob Nob that they had attended.

 
We ask that attendees bring a non-perishable food item to the Hob Nob or donate $1.00 at the door that will go towards a food donation drive. Contributions will support Seminole County Public Schools Food Pantry.

 Regional Hospital Receives Full Level II Trauma Center Designation

 

SANFORD, Fla. – (July 5, 2016) – Central Florida Regional Hospital has received official designation as a Level II Trauma Center from the Florida Department of Health.  Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) officials completed in-depth reviews, including an on-site visit to the hospital in March, before issuing approval.

 
In May 2015, Central Florida Regional successfully completed AHCA’s initial review phase and was granted Provisional Level II Trauma Center status. Since then, the hospital has accepted Level II trauma patients with critical injuries, such as victims of motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports injuries and penetrating wounds. 

 
When emergency medical services personnel respond to critically injured patients, they transport them to the nearest trauma center capable of providing appropriate treatment. Prior to May 2015, many patients in Seminole and West Volusia counties were transported more than 25 miles to the nearest trauma center. The availability of a trauma center in Seminole County reduces transport times for many patients during the “golden hour” – a 60-minute window for bringing patients to a designated trauma center. Multiple studies, including a Sept. 2015 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Surgery, show that the sooner care is given within that hour, the better the outcome. Trauma is the leading cause of death among Floridians under the age of 44, and Florida’s death rate for trauma remains higher than the national average.

SPORTS COMPLEX GRAND OPENING

Seminole County entered the big leagues of youth sports this May with the opening of the $30-million sports mega-complex. The 100-acre complex off East Lake Mary Boulevard will draw thousands of visitors from across the country to compete in tournaments, filling local hotels, restaurants and generating millions of dollars for the local economy.

The May 13th grand opening event hosted more than 250 key leaders, elected officials, spectators and residents. The ceremony was hosted in conjunction with the USSSA State Youth Baseball Championship tournament, which featured 1,500 athletes from more than 90 different Florida teams.

Thank you to the many individuals who made the Seminole County Sports Complex come to life, including: Seminole County Board of County Commissioners, Seminole County Tourist Development Council, Orlando Sanford International Airport, USSSA, HKS Architects, Wharton Smith, the Hilton Orlando – Altamonte Springs, Major Display, and the Seminole County Government team.

Preparing For a Storm: A Guide for Your Business

At FPL, we know the impact that a major storm can have on your business. We have a plan and urge you to prepare as well so you and your employees can get back to business safely and as quickly as possible.

 

FPL has been recognized for building a stronger and smarter electric grid, most recently receiving an Award of Excellence from the International Smart Grid Action Network and the Governor’s Sterling Award for its innovative smart grid technology. These tools are helping FPL improve system reliability year round, and below is a guide that provides more tips to help you prepare for hurricane season:

 

Plan ahead:

·   Ensure your employees’ contact information is up-to-date and that you have a plan in place to communicate after the storm passes.

·   Determine if your business is in a flood and/or evacuation zone and review evacuation routes; identify an emergency temporary site.

·   Identify what you need to secure your building or office.

·   Review your insurance coverage; photograph or videotape your building or office – inside and out.

 

Before a storm:

·   Gather supplies to secure the exterior of your office and protect interior furniture.

·   Fully charge all portable electronics.

·   Make multiple back-ups of computer files and data, and store records off premises.

·   Record a special voice message informing employees and customers the status of company operations.

·  Close your offices with sufficient time to allow employees to secure their own homes; inform clients that you’re closing early and when you plan to reopen.

 

After a storm:

·  Watch for downed power lines. Call 911 or FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE to report fallen power lines that present a clear and imminent danger to you or others. Do not attempt to touch any power lines. Always assume that every power line is energized.

·  Stay connected with us, report an outage and get updates at FPL.com , which is also accessible on mobile devices.

·  In case of interior water damage, immediately turn off your circuit breakers, disconnect all electrical appliances and turn off all wall switches. Remember, never stand in water while operating switches or unplugging any electrical device.

·  If you use a portable generator, read and follow all the manufacturer’s instructions and safety guidelines.

Five Central Florida Cities Team Up for Unique Pilot Project with Uber

Altamonte Springs, Lake Mary, Longwood, Maitland and Sanford work to boost

SunRail ridership by paying 25 percent of Uber fares to/from SunRail stations

 
LONGWOOD, Fla. (July 1, 2016) – Five Central Florida cities are working together on a one-of-a-

kind project to make it easier for residents to use Uber to get to SunRail stations and other

destinations.

 
Today Lake Mary, Longwood, Maitland and Sanford joined the City of Altamonte Springs in

providing discounts on Uber trips that begin and end in each respective city. The discount is

25 percent for trips that begin or end at a SunRail station and 20 percent for all other trips. The

new plan goes into effect today and Uber users will start seeing the discounts immediately.

The cities have established a Municipal Mobility Working Group to collectively evaluate how

ride-sharing technology can be incorporated into their mobility plans both in the short term and

the future. The pilot project for each city runs through July of 2017. The cities will also explore

the feasibility of offering discounts on Uber trips that go through two or more of the participating

cities.

 
“Having five neighboring cities involved in this pilot project will allow us to better measure the

impact that it has on our efforts to help people get from point A to point B and make it easier and

more cost effective for people to use SunRail,” said Frank Martz, Altamonte Springs City

Manager.



A recent study by the American Public Transportation Association found that:

·         The more people used shared modes of transportation (like Uber), the more likely they

are to use public transit, own fewer cars and spend less on transportation overall.

·         Shared modes of transportation complement public transit, enhancing urban mobility.

·         Shared mobility will continue to grow in significance and the group urges collaboration

between public agencies and the private sector.

 

In addition to boosting SunRail ridership, the option of discounted Uber trips eliminates worry

over finding parking at popular venues, allows individuals who can’t drive the ability to get

around each city and provides solutions to urgent situations such as car repair, health care, etc.

 

Utilizing the discount is easy:

·         DOWNLOAD the Uber app from the Google Play Store or iTunes App Store.

·         OPEN the Uber app and select the Promotions option from the menu.

·         TAP Set Pickup Location.

·         SELECT Promo Code at the bottom of the screen.

·         ENTER your city location in the promo code field; for example 'ALTAMONTE', ‘LAKE

·         MARY’, ‘LONGWOOD’, ‘MAITLAND’ or ‘SANFORD’.

·         SLIDE the icon to the city option

·         ENTER the destination by tapping the plus icon on the pickup address box (Android) or

·         the box behind the pickup address (iPhone).

·         TAP the Request button to submit your trip.

 

“Uber is excited to be a part of these innovative public-private partnerships, helping extend the

reach of the existing public transportation infrastructure and offering the residents of Central

Florida additional transportation options,” said Christine Mitchell, General Manager of Uber

around Lake Mary. People can now ride Uber at a discounted price - which will encourage

usage - and provide an important transportation option for all our stakeholders,” said Mayor

Longwood Mayor Joe Durso said. "Let's face it: Growth is not going to stop and our roads are

only going to get more congested. We're trying to make it easier for people to get around our

community efficiently and affordably by providing innovative options. Uber is just such an

option.”
 

“The program provides more transportation choices for Maitland residents, local employees, and

visitors. Our Maitland SunRail Station is invaluable to us and commuters will be encouraged by

the convenience offered by Uber and the forward thinking of our Municipal Mobility Working

“The Uber Pilot program will be an opportunity for Sanford to educate the public on alternative

transportation opportunities and to increase ridership from our SunRail station in and around the

city. This ride sharing pilot program offers choice and convenience through technology.

Partnering with the other four cities in the Municipal Mobility Working Group shows how local

governments can work together as a team providing results for our citizens here in Seminole

County and the Central Florida region. We encourage our residents, business owners and

visitors to take advantage of the discounts provided and to experience the ease of traveling

around Sanford with Uber to attend events, dine, and shop,” said Mayor Jeff Triplett.
