Omega Hires Key Business Leader for New Office in Sanford

 

ORLANDO, Fla. (Nov. 25, 2014) — Newcomer to the Central Florida scene Omega, a printing and manufacturing company, today announced that Bryan Barr has joined the company as a business development manager in its Sanford office.

Humans have always needed an escape from reality, so let's celebrate escape: books, games, plays, T.V., movies, music, dance, poetry or whatever allows you to unplug, unwind and enjoy a laugh or cry. From Tom Thumb to Tom Petty, a game of charades to Game of Thrones, Dr. Seuss to Dr. Zhivago, Monty Python to Monty Hall- where does your escape come from ?

The Sanford Art Walk is an art gallery tour around Downtown Sanford occurring every fourth Friday of the month from 6-9pm. In conjunction, The Historic Sanford Welcome Center is proud to host Central Florida's only month long juried art show with both a "Best in Show" award chosen by a panel of judges, and a "People's Choice" award chosen by the attendees of the show.   

                 

This is an opportunity for hundreds of people each month to attended a highly promoted event, which involves participation from local galleries and businesses. 

  

The Art Walk has a positive economic impact on the community and demonstrates how the arts contribute to the economic viability and promote a vibrant community. Please join us and several of Downtown Sanford's art galleries and other local artists in promoting the Sanford art scene. This event is free to the public and will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Orlando Sanford Inaugurates Nonstop Service to Peoria, Illinois

Orlando Sanford Announces Nonstop Flights to Austin, Texas

Sanford, FL, November 12, 2014 - Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) and Allegiant announce scheduled, nonstop, low-fare service beginning Friday, February 13 to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Texas. Located in the state capital the airport is positioned nearby Interstate 35 allowing for straightforward travel to San Antonio to the south and Waco and Dallas to the north. Sanford City Commision Directs Staff to Proceed with Establishing a Moratorium on Medical Marijuana Dispensaries within the City Limits

At the Monday, October 27th Commision meeting, the Sanford City Commision voted to direct staff to proceed with establishing a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries within the City limits for a period of 6 months with a provision that the moratorium could be extended another 6 months should the City comission deem it neccessary. in the event that Amendment Two passes in the General Election on November 4, the City will not permit medical marajuana disperansaries within the City of Sanford until the moratorium has ended.

The moratorium will give the city valuable time to make the important decision on what regulations are neccessary to protect the health safety and welfare of City residents and visitors. The City commision plans to officially vote on the moratorium at its December 15th, 2014 meeting. 


City Manager's FY 2014 Annual Report

At the Monday October 27th Sanford City Commission Meeting, City Manager Norton N. Bonaparte, Jr. presented the City Manager's 2014 Fiscal Year (FY) Annual Report. The city's fiscal year began October, 2013 and ended September 20, 2014. Throughout the year the city experienced steady growth, expansion and increased productivity acorss all departments. The efforts of city staff members have allowed for the delivery of excellent city services to our residents and visitors. The annual report is a summary of those accomplishments.

Just to share a few overall highlights of FY 2014, the City Commision adopted the Strategic Plan giving direction to the city over the next two years. The Sanford Avenue Streetscape was completed, as well as the marina day slips and Riverwalk Phase II broke ground. The Sanford SunRail station shuttle began operation to being more visitors downtown, the Citizens Academy continued to grow, and the partnership between Hamilton Elementary and the City of Sanford Mentoring program began.

Here are some of the highlights from each department:

The City Clerk's off processed 125 public records. Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)/Neighborhood stabilization program (NSP) provided grants totaling $45,000 to 6 businesses on Historic Goldsboro Boulevard to assist with emergency repairs and facade improvements. Community Improvement investigated 1,716 code complaints by code enforcement officers.

Through the City's Economic Development efforts, there were new jobs created this year in the city of Sanford. Over 500 new manufacturing jobs created with an average salary over $35,000, over 300 new jobs created in the hospitatality sector- average salary starting at $15/hour (hotels, apartments, restuarants) and the City helped to create over 300 building construction jobs due to industrial and residential development.

The City's Finance Department completed the 2013 Comprehensive Annual Report (CAFR) and received a clean audit opinion. The Fire Department was busy completing approximatley 2,300 annual fire inspections on our commercial buildings. The Human Resources and Risk Management Department were happy to report the City maintained low levels of Workers Compensation claims projected to be at 35.

The Planning Department processed 771 developed applications, while the Police Department deployed 73 body cameras worn by all Patrol, Trafiic and Neighborhood Response Unit Officers with more body cameras currently being purchased for all School Resource Officers The Public Works Department began Riverwalk Phase II, a $4.2 million project in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Seminole County, currently under construction planned for completion in 30 days.

Sanford's Recreation Department brought us many special events generating over $14,000.000 in economic impact. The utilities Department installed 19 large meters, capturing lost revenues due to obsolete meters.
